He was afraid of the ball at first because of a loud noise that interrupted the introduction to the toy, but he got over it and now he’s treating it like prey!
It’s storytime, kids. This is going to be long, and personal.
There are a lot of passionate, young Catholic women out there (emphasis on YOUNG, mark that) who have lectured me on the importance of not using birth control and how NFP makes your marriage “real” and whatever. A lot of this happened…
People should read this.
Agreed. Definitely worth the read. I tend to support the Church’s teachings on birth control. Of course, I am a pain in the ass devil’s advocate type so the degree to which I’ll defend the teaching depends on who I’m talking to. But situations like this need to be talked about. There has got to be an answer for women like this, and the answers we have right now are not good enough. I don’t know if the hierarchy is just blissfully unaware of real life situations like this one, but I’ll submit that the fact that ALL OF THEM ARE MEN could be contributing to how low this (and other issues) is on their priority list.
On the other hand, I also have a LOT of problems with the pill for political and health reasons, so… idk.I think there are problems with the pill as well (though also it has done a lot of good for a lot of women). But it’s only one form of contraception. Practically speaking, I can see where the theological objection to IUDs is, and the objection to hormonal and surgical interventions. But I cannot see the practical difference between NFP and a barrier method, and I think the Church made a big mistake in saying “you’re allowed to use this complicated symptom observation method to avoid pregnancy, but you’re not allowed to use a tiny piece of rubber.” And I have found the arguments against condoms in particular really loathsome—too many “idealists” pronouncing that couples who use condoms don’t really love and respect each other, that kind of thing.
Jealous pricks… Maybe they love each other too much to dump a whining, selfish thing on each other.

Sorry, but I’m a swan and your identity is tasty to me.
(Note: I would not say this if I thought this was not a troll. But, a nonhuman who was not a troll would also acknowledge that some species naturally eat other species.
In this case, swans and potatoes. Now I’m hungry…)
Okay, forget everything I have ever complained about or told you to do, politically. Forget if you don’t read political posts. Stop. WATCH/READ THIS RIGHT NOW.
For those of you who for some reason cannot or do not want to watch the video, allow me to summarize. Right now there is a law that has passed the Virginia legislature that would mandate a trans-vaginal ultrasound for anyone seeking an abortion. No exceptions.
Now that in and of itself does not sound so scary, right? Wrong. A trans-vaginal ultrasound is not a normal type of ultrasound. It is an ultrasound that is taken by sticking a probe into a woman’s vagina. And it is completely and totally medically unnecessary. The Republican legislators who have passed this bill admit to it being completely medically unnecessary. It exists for the sole purpose of discouraging women from getting abortions.
I honestly could care less what your personal views on abortion are, but here’s something we have to get straight right now: no matter how you feel about abortion or why, this is government-mandated rape. Think I’m exaggerating? Let’s look at how rape is defined by the federal government of the United States of America:
“The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”
Let’s re-iterate here: there are no exceptions. It doesn’t matter if you are getting an abortion one week or eight months into your pregnancy. You will be forcibly probed. It doesn’t matter if you are aborting for personal reasons or because it’s a medical necessity for either your safety or the safety of your child. You will be forcibly probed. It doesn’t matter if you are fourteen or forty. You will be forcibly probed. It does not matter if your child is the product of incest or even the product of rape. You will be forcibly probed.
Now, I don’t live or vote in Virginia. Technically, there is nothing I can do about this. But currently this bill is on the way to the governor’s desk, and the only hope there is of it not becoming law is if Virginia citizens contact the Governor and tell him about their opposition to him signing this into law. (Contact information is here. Please note that calling generally carries more weight than e-mailing does.)
Please re-blog this story. E-mail it to everyone you know. Tell them to e-mail it to everyone they know. Eventually, some of these people we all know should be from Virginia, and if you are from Virginia, you need to let your voice be heard now. Regardless of if you think life begins at conception, there is no justification, ever, for the government mandating the rape of women.
As sombody who has had one of these for a valid medical reason, I find this APPALLING. Speaking only from personal experience, it was invasive and uncomfortable on more than just a physical level. This is government sanctioned rape, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.
- everything in your history books, with few exceptions, is filtered through the lens of white Eurocentric eliminationst thought. you will only learn what a board of educators, working with a biased, racist agenda, decide is fit for you to know unless you go out and educate yourself. unless you sit down, shut up, and listen to other voices
- history is not something you absorb and passively take in. history is something you wrest from the mountains of bullshit, something you piece together from bits here and there, something you follow in a patchwork pattern, not a linear progression, something you are constantly expounding on and working with.
- the contributions of marginalized groups do not exist in high school history except as tokens there to contribute to a vision of sanitized and non-threatening ‘diversity’. whatever marginalized group you belong to, you will not see any realistic representation of it in class or in texts.
- the most beautiful truths to be found in global literature are unlikely to be found in your required texts.
- sometimes it is not about learning, but unlearning, and recognizing your privileges and dismantling them. this is not a process with an end. this is a process you choose to engage in for the rest of your life. it is not meant to be easy or comfortable. it is meant to hurt, to disrupt, to be real.
- people have a vested interest in keeping you ignorant.
And it’s true. We all know it. I learned hate to learn history. Mostly because they kept teaching us American History since the Columbus discovery year after year, until I couldn’t remember a single thing they said (I still don’t). Second mostly because the books were full of dates and names and very little else. The interesting parts were lacking.
The only class I liked was sociology. But both of the repeated courses (American History and Puertorican History—shame we never learned world history) were fun when narrated by Eduardo—high school. He’d come up with facts the textbook interpretation didn’t give you. When the text didn’t tell you why, he would. You know, the other side…

Anna Karina, Pierrot Le Fou (via plithith) This quote… actually frustrates me a lot, aaa. Because I am always the person on the other side of that conversation. I speak with words when other people look with feelings. I am cold when other people are flushed. I want thoughts when other people want touches. I want ideas when other people want love. If you love me, then, love me for this, not wishing it to go away. (via swanblood) |
These shots of an extremely rare albino ruby-throated hummingbird were photographed by two Virginia teenagers and two preteens: Marlin Shank, 16, Shaphan Shank, 14, Darren Shank, 12 and Allen Shank, 9.
Haaahahahahahahaha! Gotta watch this. It’s a riot!
Best Christmas play mishap ever!
Eoin “Trollfer” Colfer, ladies and gentlemen.
Everyone go read Artemis Fowl.
(side note: he and Louise Rennison remind me of each other because they have the same talent and propensity for telling tales of their real life in presentations with the same humor that fills their writing.)
Adore the empty crib.
